In 1936, an Iowa newspaper editor wrote about a cocktail he found in Tijuana that sounds very similar to the classic drink. A year later, a cocktail book published in the UK called for a cocktail recipe containing tequila, triple sec, and lime juice, the trio to making the ideal Margarita.
